This multilingual virtual summit will span several time zones and feature prominent activists from every continent. On Wednesday Education International will lead the “Teach for the Planet: Global Education Summit.” This digital event will examine climate and environmental justice, connecting the climate crisis to issues of pollution, poverty, police brutality, and the pandemic, all within a racial justice framework. In the evening the Hip Hop Caucus and its partners will present the “We Shall Breathe” virtual summit. It will begin on Tuesday 20 April with a global youth climate summit led by Earth Uprising, in collaboration with My Future My Voice, OneMillionOfUs and hundreds of youth climate activists. ![]() This year Earth Day will be marked with three days of climate action. The organisation said: “We’ll cover natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems.” ![]() The theme of this year’s Earth Day is “Restore Our Earth”. On Earth Day 2016, the Paris Agreement, which focuses on climate change, was signed by more than 120 countries, including the UK, United States and China. It was named Earth Day, and its purpose grew, culminating in it becoming the largest single day protest in human history. The concept was proposed by peace activist John McConnell at a 1969 Unesco conference in San Francisco, and was originally planned to be on 21 March, the first day of spring.Ī month later United States Senator Gaylord Nelson proposed a nationwide environmental teach-in on 22 April, an event which consumed McConnell’s plan.
